Dan filled us in on some of the history of the winery, a bit about the growing of the grapes, the success stories and of course we tasted wine! We started the night off with a lovely light Pinot Noir Rose, closely followed by a Riesling. Our next wine was a little bit different – a Viognier, very full bodied and succulent and probably a bit unusual for most of our wine clubbers. From there we moved on to a couple of reds – an organic Pinot Noir and a Grenache which I particularly enjoyed. It was great to taste a couple of wines that are “left of field!” We finished the night off with a delicious late harvest Riesling with the plea from Dan that if anyone had a dessert wine lurking in a cupboard to “please drink it”. Our September wine club will feature Marsden Estate Winery from Kerikeri, as always, on the first Wednesday of the month.
